Intro/Letter From the Editor - Ryan Main - Sales

Years of planning, months of discussions, and email after email of minor edits and the Pik-A-Dilly RV Centre referral program is finally at the debut stage!!

We at the Pik-A-Dilly family have put our heads together to create a referral program to reward you, the customer, for sending your friends and family in to see us for their next RV purchase. The only thing you have to do is send us your referrals after signing up for the program and wait for the rewards to show up. Each referral you send to Pik-A-Dilly that purchases a RV from us will qualify you for your choice of a $100 gift card to the parts/service department, The Keg, or Petro-Canada. For your 3rd, 5th, 10th, and 15th referral, you'll have a choice of prize for your home or the RV that increases in value based on the referral stage you're at. If you've purchased an RV from Pik-A-Dilly in the last 3 years, you'll receive a referral brochure and letter in the mail explaining the program. If you don't fall into that category and would like to be a part of the program, give us a call or drop me an email (rmain@pikadilly.com) and we'll get the information sent out to you.

You do not have to own an RV to take part in this rewarding program. If you send us a customer that purchases and they tell us they were referred by you, you can still earn the rewards as long as you are enrolled in the program.

We're extremely happy to have this program rolled out for the public to benefit from, and we look forward to rewarding our friends by being able to assist their friends in the purchase of a new or new to them RV.

More on the 100th Anniversary of the RV Industry.

As mentioned in a previous newsletter, the RV Industry is celebrating 100 years in 2010. It seems difficult to imagine, since RVing really wasn’t that popular in Canada prior to the late 50’s and early 60’s. I think the short summers had a lot to do with establishing the manufacturing base in Canada and therefore lack of dealers. The picture you see below is a 1931 Ford “Housecar” called the Tennessee Traveler. RV’s are not just to enable the family to go camping. They have long been essential tools to the traveling musician, evangelist, circus roustabout and others whose professions were too mobile to allow having a stationary home. The tradition continues today, especially among musicians on tour!

How would you like to pull into a campground like this? I recently read a story about a Denver Colorado campground circa 1920’s with 800 sites along the river. Included at the campground was a service station with car wash and restaurant, hair salon, dance hall, billiards hall, lounge, laundromat, kids play area and golf course. Talk about a one-stop shop – in the 1920’s no less!

After 40 years in the industry, I feel I could write a book on the changes I have witnessed.

Unfortunately, it wouldn’t account for the first 60 years. If you have an interest in the early history of the industry, google “vintage RVs”. You will be amazed at how much historical information is on the web. It makes for good entertainment on a rainy afternoon.

I’m proud to say that our company – Pik-A-Dilly RV Centre (originally named by my mother) was formed in 1962 by my parents, Frank and Shirley Main and we will soon celebrate 50 years in the RV Industry – not long by historical standards, but the oldest running dealership in Manitoba!

Cheers till next month!

Service and Parts Department News - Heather Arthurson - Service Manager and Shannon Davis - Parts

Slide toppers provide the benefit of keeping all kinds of debris such as tree limbs, twigs, and leaves off of the slide roof.  Most of us do not crawl up on our roofs to inspect our slides every time we are ready to move our RV. The upper slide seal is particularly vulnerable to foreign debris so it's important that the top of the slide is clean as it is retracted. It is difficult enough to keep outdoor elements out of your RV in the slide areas, so these areas need to be protected as best as possible.

As far as installation goes, some trailers have a drip rail over the slideout that needs to be removed and be replaced with an awning rail.  On other trailers there is no drip rail and all that needs to be done is install the awning rail and then the slide topper. The slide topper installation does require 2 people for sliding them into place, but once in place they roll in and out with the operation of the slide room.

If you are interested in a slide topper, give us a call and we can make that happen for you as we currently have our slide toppers on sale.

For example:
84" slide topper  Reg. $433.00  Sale price  $339.00  plus install
162" slide topper  Reg. $567.00  Sale price  $429.00  plus install

Come on in and we will fix you up!
