Intro/Letter From the Editor - Ryan Main - Sales

As the 'traditional' summer months close down, and parents shift their focus to getting all the latest in back-to-school fashion and supplies to send the kids off to the next grade, few people are still thinking of the great outdoors.  However, at Pik-A-Dilly RV Centre, we have plenty of reasons for you to continue thinking of relaxing under the awning as the sun sets for the evening, leaving a backdrop of stars over the lake, beyond the campfire.  It's that time again when we start to look to move our remaining 2009 inventory to make way for the incoming 2010 floor plans.  As you'll read below we have also sustained some hail which has resulted in a Pik-A-Dilly 'Hail Sale'.  These two events are sure to save customers thousands of dollars back of retail prices.  So if you're thinking of making a move with regards to your family RV, there's no better time than now.  Enjoy the newsletter, and should we be able to provide you with any information, please give us a call.

Dealership News - Don Main - General Manager

The recent hailstorm that passed thru the Brandon and Western Manitoba area has caused significant damage to homes, auto's and RV’s. If your RV has incurred damage, there are some things that you will want to do in the short term, as well as the long term, to assess damage and necessary repairs.

If your unit has a fiberglass construction, it’s unlikely the walls would have sustained any damage. You will likely have a rubber roof, so there will be a minimum chance of roof damage. However, roof vents may have been cracked or broken, plumbing vent covers will have been broken, tail and clearance light lenses may be cracked or broken, as well as roof mounted fridge vents. The air conditioner condenser coil (fins) may have been flattened. This will impede the flow of air thru the coil and affect the ability to cool the unit. Of course, all of these problems are repairable but should be addressed sooner rather than later (the last thing you want is water leaking into the RV causing long term rotting).  Please inspect the sealant on the roof (around vents, etc.) for any cracks. If there is a problem, re-sealing should occur ASAP.

When checking your roof, please be aware of safety issues and insure that you have the proper ladder. We recommend that you have a “spotter” when attempting to inspect your roof for damage. If possible, stay off the roof itself, inspecting from the outside edges only.

Roll out the awning and slide-toppers, if you have any, and inspect for holes along the top of the “roll.”

Our service department would be happy to help if you are unsure of what you are looking for, or lack the tools to perform a proper inspection. Call Pat or Heather at 728-2015 for more information and an appointment.

If your RV is constructed with aluminum exterior walls (and possibly roof), you will have very visible damage to the exterior of your unit. All of the above issues will also apply to your situation. It’s unlikely that the aluminum skin will have been perforated, as we haven’t heard of that in this area yet. However, you will have an insurance claim with MPIC, or another insurer depending upon your location. I suggest you call the insurance company quickly as they have a tremendous number of claims and it will take time for the adjusters to get to everyone.

Once you have filed a claim, we would like to see it so we can order the proper materials required and book the repair for this winter when you are finished camping for the season. I assure you that we have a very capable staff to effect any and all repair work necessary as a result of this unfortunate storm.

Our inventory incurred damage as well and we have decided to sell it off at very deep discount in order to clear the lot and make room for more inventory. We didn’t want to tie up our service department repairing our own units and have our customers wait! As a result, anyone interested in a “Hail” of a deal should visit us today as selection is somewhat limited and they are going fast now that the word is out. There are thousands of dollars in extra discount!  Of course all units still include usual manufacturer warranty.

We never wish to see a storm of this nature, however, we have no control of when it may occur. The good news is that the timing was good for all concerned. It won’t effect the camping season and it will allow for repairs to take place during the winter season, allowing you to be ready for next spring! We do have a major concern regarding the supply of aluminum. There was a huge storm in Western Canada about three weeks prior to ours, and the dealers have been placing orders for material. The suppliers will be backed-up and busy for a long time, therefore, it’s important that we get orders in the system as soon as possible. If you have a claim and wish to pursue proper repair, please act now. Call your insurance provider, get a claim number and bring the form to us. We will schedule the delivery of material and time for repair. Any short-term repairs to eliminate the chance of leakage can be done now and major repairs later.

We have sufficient supply of vents, sealant, etc. to take care of short term issues in our parts department. Some roof vents have been a little difficult to get in quantity due to demand, but our parts staff reacted very quickly and more inventory is arriving daily.
