Intro/Letter From the Editor - Ryan Main - Sales

Well as the days begin to grow shorter and the temperature cools off, we take some time to look back upon the summer.  I know that alot of area farmers are very busy in the fields harvesting this years crop, while students are gearing up for another year in the classroom, and RVers are getting prepped for the last long weekend of the summer.  This month's newsletter has a great recipe for a campfire breakfast, and some tips for making a campfire so you can keep warm as the nights get cooler.
As you may have read in last month's newsletter, I recently returned from a coaching in a hockey tournament in Sapporo, Japan.  The team I went with finish with a 3-1 record and brought home the silver medals.  I had a great time and would like to thank all involved for a wonderful opportunity and a phenomenal experience.

So without further ado, I present the August issue of the Pik-A-Dilly newsletter.  Enjoy the read, and enjoy the last few weeks of camping weather.

Dealership News - Don Main - General Manager

I am especially proud of the team members here at Pik-A-Dilly – not only because they are so committed to our customers, but because they are all very community oriented and spend lots of personal time volunteering. Recently, Caitlin Hayden, one of our pre-delivery specialists and a volunteer Girl Guide Leader, accompanied a group of Girl Guides to Churchill on a field trip. They explored the tundra, checked out the old fort, went whale watching and encountered a few polar bears. This was not Caitlin’s first trip to Churchill, but one of the most memorable – probably because of the forty–two hour train trip to get there as a result of some problems with the rails! Obviously, Caitlin has a lot of patience! All of us are very proud of her.

Last month I told you about a very special trip that Ryan Main was taking to Japan. Ryan is a hockey coach in his spare time and had the opportunity to lead a AAA Bantam team to a tournament in Sapporo, Japan in early August. I thought I should update you on the results of the trip this month. I’m happy to report that the team returned home with a silver medal – losing the final game to a team of equally excited players from Edmonton, Alberta. The highlight of the tournament was a convincing win over a team from Russia. Ryan says that the boys were especially proud of this win and felt that they were playing for “Team Canada”. They also squeezed in a little sightseeing and beach time. All in all, they had a great time and everyone will remember the trip of their life!

Sales Department News - Dave Shepherd - Sales Manager

The time has come to start preparing for the fall season.  With this in mind, we are liquidating our few remaining 2008 models to make room for the 2009 inventory.  With only 13 - 2008 models left, anyone wishing to take advantage of the clear out pricing better hurry or they will miss out.

For those planning on exploring all Canada has to offer next summer, deals like a 2008 Fleetwood Folding Trailer (Retail Price $11,770) on for only $8,995, is definitely worth looking at.  The money you save verses buying a 2009 next spring and combined with the economical towing of a Fleetwood Folding Trailer can be put towards different activities to enjoy with the family.

If you enjoy the seasonal camping lifestyle or want to get into it, we have a few remaining larger travel trailers and 5th wheels in the 30 – 33’ range that would be ideal for a seasonal site.  The Summerland 2920 with its queen bed in front for mom & dad and Jack & Jill beds in the rear for kids is the perfect family unit.  With its $27,000 price tag reduced to below $20,000 – the savings will make it worth purchasing now for spring use.  If a few marks don’t scare you, we have one of our 2920 demos left with an additional $1,000 saving.

With the Can-US dollar exchange rate starting to creep up again ($1.07 Canadian per $1 US), the 2008 models that were purchased for the most part with a par dollar are even a more attractive bargin.

As the saying goes, ‘Why wait for spring – do it now!’, and SAVE on discounted pricing.

Camping Tips

For a biodegradable fire starter take some toilet paper rolls stuffed with lint from your dryer. have some waterproof matches. You can make them by dripping candle wax over the heads of wooden matches before you leave home. Dry twigs and leaves are great to start the fire but you need logs to build up coals for a long lasting fire and for cooking etc. Hardwoods like oak burn cleaner evergreens like pine and cedar will usually smoke and crackle more because of the sap. Start with twigs and leaves and build a teepee with bigger sticks and logs. As you add wood remember that air needs to get to the fire. Stack the logs so that the fire gets air and can burn below the wood. Don't add plastic plates and containers to your fire. These items are not biodegradable, they are toxic and are just plain messy for the next guy who builds a fire in the same spot. Start the fire early so that you will have a nice build up of coals later when you want to sit around it for warmth.

OMELETS IN A BAG...

Good for when all of your family is together and no one wants to stand over a fire to cook.

Have campers write their names on a quart-size freezer bag with permanent marker.

Crack 2 eggs (large or extra-large) into the bag (not more than 2) shake to combine them.

Put out a variety of ingredients such as: cheeses, ham, onion, green pepper, tomato, hash browns, salsa, etc.

Each guest adds prepared ingredients of choice to their bag and shake, Make sure to get the air out of the bag and zip it up.

Place the bags into rolling, boiling water for exactly 13 minutes.  You can usually cook 6-8 omelets in a large pot.

Open the bags and the omelet will roll out easily. Be prepared for everyone to be amazed.
